2013 Special Olympics
I am so proud of the scouts of troop 102. They just finished what the scouts have voted to be their favorite camp out, the
Special Olympics. Every year the boys have more and more responsibilities at these events. This year they made 2000 lunches for the athletes, coaches and volunteers. They bussed the tables and served breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as bussed tables Saturday night for the Olympian's dinner. They cleaned the football stadium after the opening ceremonies and fireworks display and they cleaned the grounds all around the Olympic village. They were responsible for bringing fresh drinking water to stations around the Olympic village. But the most impressive thing about the boys of troop 102 is when we gave the scouts free time to do what ever they wanted to do, they went back to where the games were taking place and cheered on the Special Olympians. It was so heart warming when we were going from one event to another or when the Olympians, coaches and other volunteers would pass us and they would say to our scouts “thank you for all your help” and the scouts would either wish them well on the games or compliment them on their awards and medals that they so proudly displayed.
